Welcome to “The Friends of North Norfolk”

The Friends of North Norfolk are an informal group who have come together because they share a common concern for the future of this beautiful unspoilt coastline.  Never in its history has the planning system been under so much pressure from inappropriate development, but public support can make a difference.

If you would like to join us, just use the contact us tab above and complete the form. There are no meetings or subscriptions, just a united concern for what may happen to a place we all love.

I am pleased to inform the Friends of North Norfolk that NNDC in conjunction with their appointed consultants Purcell, have produced a draft Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan for the Glaven Valley.

This appraisal seeks to review the conservation area designation that protects the character of the valley through the planning process. The review will help to identify the special qualities of the area and those issues which threaten it. The document aims to provide guidelines for the public, developers and planners to prevent erosion of character and achieve enhancement.

The public consultation runs from 21 November to 20 January. The document is available electronically via the Council’s website, and hard copies will be made available at the NNDC Offices in Cromer & Hunworth Church, and hopefully Holt Library and Blakeney Church. There will be an open meeting held on 30 November at 5.30pm at The Venue, Kerridge Way, Holt. Council and Purcell representatives will be on hand to explain the process and answer questions.

Following public consultation and review of all representations received, the Appraisal and Management Proposals will be re-considered by the District Council’s Planning Policy and Built Heritage Working Party prior to formal adoption by Cabinet. The document will then become a material consideration in the planning process.

The main benefit of an adopted Conservation Area Appraisal is that it can be used to provide a more effective context for day-to-day planning decisions on applications affecting the setting and character of the Conservation Area. The production of a Conservation Area Appraisal will also have other advantages, most importantly perhaps by helping to engender a renewed commitment for the understanding and protection of the local historic environment.

The consultation went live yesterday, and the document is available to view using the following link: https://www.north-norfolk.gov.uk/tasks/conservation/glaven-valley-conservation-area-review/

Any representations should be sent to:
